Hand and arm compartments for Milo’s Academy

Digital anatomy for an education brand, with a brief that asked for accuracy and a wider range of skin tones.

Hand and arm compartments for the classroom

In the first half of 2021 I worked with Milo’s Academy as a medical illustrator and anatomy consultant, producing digital anatomy depictions and helping to shape the brand guide for their teaching material. The hand and arm compartment figures are from that period.

A cross section that still looks like a hand

The figure shows the hand from the palm side with a cross section through the metacarpals. The muscles, tendons, nerves and vessels sit in their compartments in the cut face, while the fingers and thumb above it stay whole, so the reader can place the section in a hand they recognise.

Skin tones

One part of the brief was to widen the range of skin tones shown across the material. It is a small change on the page and a meaningful one for the students using it.

The hand and arm compartment figures are in the anatomical studies series.
